AmoS Dean


Amos Deans is a company founded on the roots and traditions of the Iowan country side. Named after the original owner's of the property, Amos Dean and Evelyn Lipcamon, Amos Dean's originated as a homestead of local foods, Iowa tradition, and Czech culture in 1967.

Amos Dean worked as a butcher at Wilson's meat packing plant. One day, Amos and his brother Earl came across an old vibration chamber from Rockwell Collins and thought it would make a great smoker. With a little bit of American ingenuity and some liquid encouragement, they converted the old vibration chamber into a smoker and the birth of Amos Dean's legendary country style ribs and hams followed soon after. The inspiration and legacy continues two generations later through our beautiful gardens and the smell of smoldering cherry wood in the air.

Michael Lipcamon

Executive Chef/Owner 

Michael Lipcamon was born in Coralville, Iowa in 1989. Some of his earliest memory's are of being in the garden, pulling fresh peas off the vine, chewing on rhubarb stalks, and staining his hands with mulberry's fresh off the tree. Michael would spend a lot of time at the Amos Dean homestead throughout his life, including every spring when his dad would pull him from school early to for their ritual morel hunt.

Michael got his start in the food industry at age 14 by washing dishes at the Brown Bottle in North liberty, Iowa. From there he worked his way up through local restaurants as a student at West High School. After earning his associates degree at Kirkwood Community College, he left for Arizona to further develop his craft in culinary school. After spending three years at Binkley's Restaurant, he moved to Boston where he participated in the opening of Tony Maw's second restaurant, the Kirkland Tap and Trotter as a Sous Chef. He then moved to New York City to work in his first Michelin Star restaurant, working for David Bouley as the Chef De Partie of Meat at Bouley.  

After two years in New York City he moved back to Solon, IA to the very spot where his passion for food began. Michael believes that the best food comes from the best ingredients and there is no better way to insure quality than to grow it himself on the soil he grew up on. Michael is here to prove that whether it's on a paper plate or a silver platter, great food always starts with your roots.

At Amos Deans we have wide selection of specialty produce. Using modern microbial techniques provides Amos Deans with a 100% organic growing experience. Stop out at our road side stand, join our weekly produce delivery service, or visit us at your local farmers market.  For tours of the property, feel free to contact us, we'd love to have you!

Plants and flowers

Amos Deans will have a large variety of plants, flowers, and garden plugs available in the spring. Contact us ahead of time for discounts on large orders

Organic Agricultural Solutions

Amos Deans offers a number of organic agricultural solutions. We invite you to visit us to talk to our agricultural specialist and to check out our fermented plant fertilizers and organic pest controls. We also offer free garden consultation for home and professional gardeners alike!

Amos Deans offers a number of catering services:

Commercial Services- Amos Deans offers catering to any work place. We can customize any order to meet your needs for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Check out our sample menus or contact us for more information.  Amos Deans is an approved vendor for the University of Iowa.

Residential Services: Amos Deans offers a number of personal, residential services. From backyard barbecues and graduation parties, to weddings and intimate dinners for two, Amos Deans is able to customize our services to deliver a service you won't soon forget. We also offer weekly produce delivery right to your door. 

Wedding Catering Services: We offer wedding catering throughout the year. Various service styles are available from plated dinners to buffet style. Our menus are seasonal and can be found here. To assist in the planning process we have compiled a wedding guideline to help determine the service and pricing for your event. We are also able to create a custom menu to make your event special!

Food Truck Services-  Find our food truck at your local farmers market and enjoy food from our wood fired grill or take home some fresh produce from our garden. We will also be in attendance at various local events in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa city area. We provide private food truck services for events, such as weddings or graduations. The Farm Table- Located in Solon, the Farm Table overlooks our garden. We’d love to host you for a private, coursed dinner for up to 10 people, featuring seasonal ingredients from our garden. Chef Michael Lipcamon will prepare a unique experience, and is capable of customizing a menu to fit your needs. Contact us to start planning your event.

At Amos Dean's we feel it is important to build relationships with other local farmers and businesses. Not only do these partnerships strengthen our ability to provide our customers with the best catering experience possible, but it helps to build community identity and supports the local economy. Calico Farm

We have worked with Bonnie at Calico Farm since the beginning. From her neighborhood farm on the Northside of Iowa City, she provides the community with high quality specialty produce through her CSA program and the local area farmer's markets. 



Garden Oasis

T.D at Garden Oasis is based out of Coggon, Iowa. We have sourced veggies and eggs from T.D since we met during the 2017 market season. His produce, chickens and eggs are sustainably grown and raised and can be found at the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids farmer's markets or through his CSA program.



Palmer House Stable

The Palmer House Stable is a historic event spaced located in Solon, IA. The building was built in 1838 and is a beautiful rustic space to host any life event from weddings to birthday parties.
